Wood Machining: Glasses

posted in: Machining Projects | 2

In this post I wanted to show an order that have been made to me. It’s about a frame glasses, but made of wood. Now that the frames are fashioned from a few years ago, I see a good opportunity to try to take a range of frames with beautiful wood finish. As always, part of CAD, who have given me, and proceed as usual to program the cut based on the type of wood (speed) and the thickness of each wooden board.

For this project, you have to start practicing according to the type of wood, and little by little polishing details. For example, it is not yet defined how it will mount the glass panels, or what type of hinges will be used. But it can start working wood, bend it, try different finishes, sanded, painted, etc …

To begin with I’ve tried with plywood, which is cheap and easy to check measures:

They have not been bad.

But the real test is machined the wood are actually going to use:

In this video you can see the whole process of machining the glasses, and below, the result:

I have also tried other types of wood, different colors and densities:

This wood is actually too big, but we are in the testing phase, so we learn to deal with different types of wood. Later continue to do more testing and will upload here.

As I said, this is an order, and I hope someday to start a modest “production” if all goes well and have good reception. If you are interested in the project, I invite you to contact the promoter of the idea, Adrian: admoag@gmail.com
